How to Set Boundaries and Savor the Holidays

Published 5 months ago • 1 min read

Hey friend!

The holidays can feel like a marathon of commitments, obligations, and the never-ending hunt for the perfect gift. And it’s way too easy to get swept up in the whirlwind of it all. But what if this year, we opt out and instead gift ourselves a sense of calm and control?

Enter the magic of setting boundaries.

Boundaries help you protect your time, energy, and resources, allowing you to prioritize what matters most to you. They are essential during this chaotic time of year.

Your Holiday Sanity Toolkit:

  1. Reflect & Prioritize: Take a quiet moment to reflect on what truly matters to you during the holidays. What brings you joy? What feels like an obligation? Prioritize activities that align with your values and bring genuine happiness.
  2. Learn to Say ‘No’ (Politely): It’s not about being a holiday Scrooge; it’s about preserving your sanity. Politely declining commitments that don’t align with your priorities is an act of self-love, not selfishness.
  3. Tech-Free Time Blocks: In a world dominated by screens, gift yourself pockets of tech-free time. Whether it’s a cozy evening with a book or a quiet morning with a cup of cocoa—disconnect to reconnect with the season's magic.
  4. Guard Your Rest: Amidst the hustle, don’t forget the importance of rest. Guard your sleep like a precious gift. Quality rest rejuvenates your spirit and arms you to face the holiday bustle with grace.

Setting boundaries can be challenging, especially if you are used to putting others’ needs before your own. Remember, it is okay to say “no” when something doesn’t align with your values or goals. It is okay to take time for yourself and prioritize self-care.

Boundaries are the gift you give yourself!

Hey friend! Life has a way of throwing unexpected curveballs, doesn't it? For months, I've been eagerly anticipating my move back to my hometown early this summer. But what I didn't anticipate was the mental juggling act required to navigate building a new house while simultaneously selling my current one. With so much to plan for and uncertainty surrounding the completion date of our new home, my productivity and focus have taken a hit lately. It wasn't until fairly recently that I came to...

Hey friend! For a long time, I was caught in the trap of all-or-nothing thinking, believing that if something couldn’t be done perfectly, it wasn’t worth doing at all. Can you relate? Here’s how it played out for me: I wanted to get fit but felt discouraged unless I could commit to a rigorous 5-day-a-week gym routine. I aimed to cut sugar from my diet but thought it pointless unless I eradicated every trace of it in one go. I planned to start investing but held back, believing it wasn’t...

Hey friend! Happy New Year! Is it too late to be saying that? Welcome to my first newsletter of 2024. I'll be honest; despite the promise of a brand-new year filled with possibilities, I feel stuck. I'm so far in my head I'm blocked. And I recognize it for what it is: fear. It's not uncommon for excitement to manifest as fear, especially when there's uncertainty about what lies ahead. Case in point: I have big plans for my personal and professional life this year. And, of course, our friend,...
